Software Development Engineer II

Overview: 

Are you a software engineer interested in helping to bootstrap a brand new software organization at Hershey? We are looking to hire the first few engineers for this team. We are starting from scratch so you will have a chance to participate in bringing up the entire technical stack. This team will build software across a broad range of problem domains at Hershey, spanning from supply chain to marketing to consumer insights. This is an opportunity to work on challenging problems spanning the breadth of Hershey's business.

In this role, you will own entire features, designing their implementation, breaking them down into individual tasks, and handing off some of those tasks to other engineers. You will consult with teammates on the best approach as appropriate. You will interact with our business partners, gaining an understanding of the business context of the features and the larger team. You are expected to be able to diagnose and fix typical bugs in the team’s codebase. You usually produce acceptable code without much feedback.

You will also conduct technical interviews as needed as well as participate in the team on call rotation.

Qualifications/Responsibilities:

• Experience working on and operating/supporting production software systems.
• Experience with testing at all levels (unit, integration, functional)
• Monitoring, alerting, and supporting software systems
• Understanding of continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD)
• Able to work somewhat independently
• Able to learn new programming languages and frameworks
• Curious: able and willing to learn as you go

Experience:

• 2-7 years of experience needed in software development, software engineering or information services​
• Proven track record of picking up new technology as needed​
• Experience supporting software systems
