Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Capital Engineering and Center of Excellence and working at the Technical Center in Hershey, PA, the Associate Designer with moderate direction participates in the development, execution, and implementation of low to medium complexity consumer manufactured goods design projects utilizing the latest Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) software.

This role will also provide services related to the implementation, maintenance, and upkeep of the facilities database utilizing Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) software. This includes AutoCAD drawings and reporting related facilities and real estate data.

They will be expected to develop the ability to demonstrate and apply technical knowledge and expertise. A successful candidate is expected to learn problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical subject matter via drawings, written, and verbally cross functionally and with their manager.  They will be expected to learn the capability to influence cross functional team members and build personal networks to provide design engineering solutions.

Travel Expectations:

This role will require some travel (including International) based on assignment (10-20% average). 

 

 

Scope of Responsibility:

Create drawings and 3D models from written and verbal specifications obtained from internal and external customers.  Handle design assignments under supervision of a lead designer.  Work with multiple drawing sets from multiple projects in different stages of completion. Apply industry standard GMP and Sanitary Design methodology in all manufacturing related design work.  Designs will respect Hershey developed people safety, quality, sanitation, and safe food compliance in all related work.

 

Develop additional knowledge and proficiency of CAD processes, 3D designs, Hershey standards, and project design. Work directly with peers to gain knowledge and experience as well as attend training opportunities to advance skills in design.

 

CAFM Management & Maintenance:  Layout, design, and document space plans for facilities in relation to move planning and construction projects. Keep and maintain accurate drawings of As-built conditions in AutoCAD and Revit formats for uploading into CAFM Software. Create polylines in accordance with space measurement protocols including BOMA and IFMA. Conduct building audits to verify that employee locations, furniture layout and room configurations are correctly noted on floor plans.

 

Strategic Development for CAFM System:  Manage FM system development including upgrades and enhancements to the system. Monitor and track CAFM performance. Expand use of CAFM software beyond Derry Township Facilities to North America and then globally. Develop and train other associates on software updates and functions within the FM System.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • AutoCAD and Revit Software proficiency required. Experience with other Autodesk products; Navisworks, Recap, Inventor, Plant 3D preferred.
  • Embraces opportunities to learn new skills by actively participating in the development of self through mentoring and training programs.
  • Willingness to learn new advance methodology and technology to support Building Services and Plant Manufacturing, i.e., AR/VR (Augmented and Virtual Reality), BIM 360, CAD 2D and 3D Modelling.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to effectively plan and execute multiple priorities while being flexible and adaptive to change
  • Understanding of space measurement techniques including but not limited to BOMA and IFMA.
  • Working knowledge of building and utility systems, building codes, OSHA, hazardous material, insurance & safety regulations, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in manufacturing equipment and related operations (Processing equipment, Packaging, Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Growing proficiency of food industry practices and Hershey manufacturing processes, construction practices, standards, and codes to ultimately provide sound and economical designs.

 

Minimum Requirements and Education:

  • BS in related design discipline or AS degree and experience equivalent required.
  • 0–2 years’ experience in design work related to industrial, facilities, or related internships preferred.
