How will you fit in the big picture?
You will be a key member of Hershey’s Global Sustainability Team and the enterprise focal point for operational sustainability performance and non-FLAG decarbonization coordination. You will combine technical expertise, analytics, and portfolio-level oversight to help advance Hershey’s environmental commitments across manufacturing and the broader value chain.
This role is based in Hershey, Pennsylvania, reports to the Director, Environmental Sustainability, and may require approximately 20% travel to operational facilities across the continental United States.
What will you do?
• Operational performance: Monitor enterprise energy, water, waste, and emissions performance; identify trends, risks, and high-impact improvement opportunities across Hershey’s manufacturing network.
• Energy and water expertise: Provide actionable insight on energy efficiency, fuel use, Scope 1 and 2 emissions, water use, high-risk watersheds, and high-consumption facilities.
• Dashboards and investment support: Strengthen performance dashboards and executive reporting, and help prioritize sustainability capital projects and business cases.
• Decarbonization portfolio: Maintain non-FLAG emissions pathways, forecasts, scenario models, roadmap progress, dependencies, and performance visibility across functions.
• Cross-functional delivery: Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Responsible Sourcing, Procurement, Finance, ESG Controllership, Supply Chain, logistics teams, suppliers, and co-manufacturing partners.
• Roadmap acceleration: Support supplier engagement, transportation and logistics decarbonization, internal waste reduction, acquired-business integration, and evaluation of emerging technology, data, and AI solutions.
• External engagement: Build relationships with industry groups, solution providers, and other organizations that can help accelerate progress against environmental goals.
Minimum Education & Requirements
Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience in sustainability, energy management, decarbonization, or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field required; an advanced degree in an environmental or sustainability discipline is preferred.
• Experience with operational environmental performance, including energy and water efficiency programs.
• Strong analytical capability in emissions modeling, scenario analysis, forecasting, databases, dashboards, and executive-ready storytelling.
• Working knowledge of Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG accounting, non-FLAG decarbonization, the GHG Protocol, and enterprise ESG reporting processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on technical topics while coordinating across multiple business functions and external partners.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and continuous improvement skills.
• Preferred: experience with capital projects, manufacturing engineering, Power BI or similar business intelligence tools, sustainability data platforms, AI-enabled sustainability solutions, renewable energy, energy markets, or low-carbon technologies.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $87,840 to $109,800 per year. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of job‑related factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skill set, education, and training. In addition to a market-competitive base salary, our Total Rewards package includes performance‑based incentives and a comprehensive, competitive benefits package designed to support overall physical, mental, and financial well‑being (as applicable).
