Summary

 

Audit Plan – The incumbent is responsible for developing, executing, and reporting on the results of the Internal Audit Plan to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.

 

Risk & Control Environment – The primary purpose of this position is to build audit capabilities to provide adequate coverage of global financial and operational risk. The incumbent leverages their significant business and audit experience to navigate the complexities of the Company's financial, sales and marketing, operations and IS processes and devise strategies for deploying audit resources. Value is added to the Corporation through providing impartial assessments of the effectiveness of controls. The incumbent possesses the latitude and freedom of decision-making to plan, execute, and report on all types of audits of the Company's global operations, as well as management requests and special projects. In addition, the incumbent delivers the appropriate mix of leadership and managerial skills while providing coaching and day-to-day supervision to and financial auditors who are engaged in multiple concurrent audits.

 

Change Management – The Director plays a critical role in effecting change throughout the Company's global operations. Based on the results of work performed by the Department and his/her own personal assessments, the Director exerts a high degree of influence on management to initiate and drive change/improvements in controls over financial accounting and reporting and operations, as well as to reduce the risk of fraud, secure the assets of the Company, improve business processes, increase profitability, eliminate inefficiencies and strengthen compliance.

 

Board Support – The incumbent meets regularly with the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors in group meetings to present global audit plans, execution strategies, and the results of past work, along with insights into management's effectiveness at maintaining an adequate control environment. He/she also informs them of significant accounting, risk and control matters that may impact their decision making. Through dialogue, the incumbent provides unbiased views and opinions to the Committee members on the overall effectiveness of management's control activities that represent a key factor that help to shape and impact the conclusions drawn and decisions made by the Audit Committee in fulfillment of their corporate governance responsibilities.

 

Sarbanes Oxley – The Director oversees the scoping, execution, and reporting of Sarbanes Oxley 404 testing and serves as Hershey’s main testing liaison with the external auditor.

 

Employee Engagement – The Director serves as a leader of people and must deftly assess the performance capabilities of his/her staff and provide the coaching and developmental guidance to maximize employee engagement. The Director also plays a key role in effecting the Company's program of Performance Management, as well as staff recruiting.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities

Summary of major duties:


- Develop and Execute the Global Finance & Operations Audit Plan
- Assess the Company’s global risk landscape and develop and execute an annual audit plan that provides adequate coverage of the risk universe in compliance with the standards of the Department and the auditing profession. 
- Provide guidance to audit managers and staff as they lead/execute multiple, concurrent audit teams and determine the nature, scope and extent of procedures to assess management's business processes and control environments and execute their audit testing. 
- Serve as a sounding board as audit teams draw informed conclusions on the effectiveness of management's business processes and controls and devise feasible action plans to reduce unmitigated risks. 
- Develop and maintain relationships with management to stay abreast of major business process changes within the Company. 
- Ensure that Hershey's controls standards are established consistently around the world. 
- Liaise with other audit leaders, senior management and external auditors, as well as external service providers, to ensure smooth progress on completing the global audit plan over the course of the year.
- Develop effective presentations which summarize the results of Internal Audit’s work for the Executive Committee and Audit Committee.
- Oversee Audit Quality Assessments, develop/report on key metrics, and design improvement initiatives to ensure conformance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and - Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).

- Oversee Global Sarbanes Oxley Testing, Reporting & Coordination with External Auditor
- Oversee the scoping, execution and reporting of Hershey’s global Sarbanes Oxley 404 testing.
- Communicate testing results and coordinate remediation plans directly with global process and control owners.
- Coordinate Sarbanes Oxley 404 execution and quality assurance with Hershey’s external auditor (EY) and with global control/process owners.
- Manage a team of ~15 employees and 3-5 third-party resources to deliver upon Hershey’s global Sarbanes Oxley commitments in a cost-effective manner.
- Serve as the escalation point for the classification, remediation, and reporting of all Sarbanes Oxley deficiencies.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:  

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or Risk Management required.
CPA required.
Other relevant audit certifications encouraged (CFE, CIA, etc.)
MBA encouraged.
 

Experience:
12+ years of experience in Internal Audit, External Audit, Advisory, Finance, Risk Management, or related fields.
Proven capability and experience developing and presenting executive-level and/or Board of Directors communications.
SAP, Sarbanes Oxley, and people management experience required.
