Electrical Engineering Co-Op (Spring 2023)

This job opportunity is at the Reese Plant in Hershey, PA.  We are one of the world's largest chocolate manufacturing facilities and several of Hershey’s famous brands are manufactured within our plant. 


 In this co-op position, the student will be working in an industrial environment and is expected to assume a very "hands-on" role.  The co-op will be given challenging, productive assignments similar to those of an entry-level, full-time engineer, allowing him/her to experience a sense of accomplishment and contribution.  Under the guidance of a controls engineer, the co-op may be involved in project work that may include:  electrical design, equipment / instrument installation, equipment / instrument checkout, project startups, and maintenance troubleshooting / support.  During their time at the Reese Plant, the student will have the opportunity to work directly with Production, Maintenance, Trades, Outside Contractors, and Vendors, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and other support team members depending on the assignment.


Project work may involve developing electrical elementary drawings, writing program logic controller (PLC) programs, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) screen development.  Project work may also include observing existing plant processes, making recommendations, setting up a test design and working with plant operators and supervisors to troubleshoot existing systems, or researching new technologies to implement into production environments.


Major:  Sophomore or Junior working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.


Coursework:  The candidate must have completed the basic or introductory courses in the following areas:

  • Electrical Theory
  • Electronics
  • Electrical Design


Coursework or experience in the following areas is not necessary but would be a plus:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Networking
  • SCADA Systems
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programming – Ladder Logic, Function Blocks, Structured Text
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) Development – Using Visualization Software
  • Food Processing or Manufacturing Experience


Technical Skills

Ability to use basic electrical instruments such as digital multimeter, current probes, and signal calibrators.  The successful candidate must also have basic electrical troubleshooting experience.


Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday:  8:00am – 4:30pm
