Engineer, Process Design & Implementation

Job Summary:

The Engineer, Process Design & Implementation will perform conceptual and detailed engineering design, implement and execute capital projects, and manage small-to-medium-sized capital projects. This position will work collaboratively with other Engineers, Manufacturing Business Units, Quality and Regulatory Compliance, Commercial Teams, and Vendors. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, strong communication and people skills, analytical mindset, project leadership, and technical acumen.


Role Responsibilities:

Conceptual and detailed engineering design and cost estimation for capital projects supporting North American manufacturing: 

  • Develop manufacturing alternatives that meet the business requirements and provide processing solution for the project.
  • PFD & P&ID generation and development.
  • Equipment specification & selection and evaluation of equipment suppliers.
  • Cost estimating for capital projects and process solutions.

Implementation & Execution of capital projects to support North American Manufacturing:

  • Construction scope and bid package development for small to large capital projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee the Equipment and system installation, check- out, and commissioning.
  • Successful transition of deliverables and documentation to Plant Operations and Maintenance staff.

Capital Project Management:

  • Budget, schedule, and resource management of small to medium size capital projects.
  • Lead multi-functional teams in order to ensure projects are executed successfully.
  • Make critical decisions under pressure and with limited information.



  • B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Food, Agricultural, or other closely related field
  • At least 5-7 years of experience working in Food Processing or Chocolate and Confectionery Industry
  • Process engineering, process design and project management experience, including process troubleshooting and optimization


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Knowledge and experience in process design typical for the food and pharma industry, including:

  • A basic understanding of common process unit operations and equipment used; A basic understanding of sanitary design and construction practices; A basic understanding of GMP’s; A general knowledge of common equipment suppliers
  • Possess a basic understanding of the design, application, and maintenance of process piping systems, food manufacturing equipment and process automation & instrumentation
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in the food, pharmaceutical or other industry that is relative to Hershey manufacturing processes, construction practices and standards and codes that support manufacturing
  • Prioritize solutions and develop schedules based on an understanding of the required business objectives.
  • Proven troubleshooting and optimization skills


Additional information regarding travel & location:

  • This position will require domestic and international travel at times to support the ongoing business. Travel is project dependent.
  • Remote work may be considered, dependent on project location.
