Position Title: Manager Product Configuration

Job Location: Hershey, PA

 

This position is responsible for:

 

SUMMARY

The Manager of Product Configuration is accountable for two main activities:

  1. Global Strategic Leader of System and Business Process Design for Item Creation/Change within SAP   
  2. Manages the global team of Product Configuration Analysts

 

The Manager Product Configuration is Hershey’s global expert and Team Leader in the Item Assembly recipe and specification structure for all products in the Product Data Management (PDM) system within SAP.  This role will manage the local and global teams responsible for the development of Item Assembly recipes and specifications (candy plus packaging).  Position will insure accurate and timely creation of both general and plant specific assembly recipes and the corresponding specifications by managing the team of PCA’s to set up the materials (both new and existing) which establish the multi-layer recipe structure. Will lead the team in coordination with Supply Chain, Finance, GBS, and R&D stakeholders to expedite the flow of work and materials within the PDM engineering records according to project management timelines.

 

In addition to managing the team’s day to day operations, this position will also drive continuous improvements to PCA efficiency via both business process and system improvements, as well as identify and drive improvements in PCS and project manager collaboration to adequately track work progress and meet completion dates; compiling reports on product creation/change progress of work, key decisions and problems/opportunities. Upholds the Company data standards which requires engaging stakeholders across R&D, Global Business Services (GBS), Supply Chain, and the Commercial groups to ensure recipes are aligned to new product structure.  This will require coordinating with senior business leaders and ensuring data policies and standards are upheld in balance with business needs.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

 

Global People Leader

Manages the US and global PCA resources (8-10 employees) and their workload to support timely project execution

Develop and Implement the strategic vision for the global PCA team

Provide a framework where employees (current and new) can thrive and grow while delivering services with operational excellence and high customer satisfaction. 

  • Embody Hershey Leader expectations, creating a desired team on which to work or join, resulting in favorable and improving MVOH scores
  • Take an active role in the development of others, including holding development discussions, constructing development plans and monitoring progress toward goals, providing stretch tasks and assignments, providing timely, honest and “actionable” feedback, performance management, and taking corrective action as necessary
  • Coach, develop, train and motivate employees through a combination of personal interaction, inside and outside training, specific assignments and performance management
  • Understand individual needs, soliciting their input, empowering them to achieve breakthrough results, holding individuals accountable for own actions, and recognizing individual contributions and achievements
  • Support implementation of a career architecture for the Product Configuration Analyst organization that enables job expansion, rotation, and ultimately bench strength that is consistent across GBS sites, leveraging strengths of each group

Continuous Improvement Identification and Execution

Identifies, Maintains List of Ideas and Implements Business and System Process Improvements

  • Work internally and externally with other PLM stakeholders to improve the overall end to end process
  • Identifies and develops KPIs and Metrics used to determine the overall health of the current process and ability to meet external customers SLAs
  • Works alongside the IS support team to implement system enhancements and testing
  • Coordinates system upgrades and UAT testing
  • Identifies and implements areas for system automation
  • Manages the creation and maintenance of Hershey’s new multi-layer, general recipes in the Product Data Management (PDM) system according to the Accolade project decisions, Product Development expectations, and Engineering Record assumptions, responsible for Escalation Resolutions.

 

  • Set the strategic priority for global data operations for their respective data domains. They will own the priorities in their data scope and guide the global team members to successful execution of data quality improvements.
  • Identify and drive business process re-engineering and data quality opportunities as appropriate
  • Interface with business and IS partners, taking the lead in the analysis, research and resolution of master data issues globally
  • Influence business and IS leadership on data quality opportunities and priorities
  • Establish partnership with Information Services and serve as a liaison with appropriate personnel to understand system capabilities and requirements
  • Capture and curate documented governance procedures and incorporate those procedures into day-to-day operations. 
  • Deliver and continue to improve the data management metrics and service levels (SLAs) aligned with the GBS Operating Model
  • With the Sr Manager, Enterprise Data Governance, play a lead role in the Data Excellence Council, facilitating communication and escalation of tasks on behalf of the council 

PCA Support

Functions as a PCA supporting project execution which including the following:

  • Manages the creation and maintenance of Hershey’s new multi-layer, general recipes in the Product Data Management (PDM) system according to the Accolade project decisions, Product Development expectations, and Engineering Record assumptions, responsible for Escalation Resolutions.
  • Validate the inputs, quantities, units of measure, outputs and any associated key data attributes as they create full product recipes.
  • Manages materials within recipes (both general and plant specific) to represent manufacturing processes and production confirmation points to support product costing, co-packing, and an expanding level of agile supply chain strategies, overseeing full team activities.

Serves as the PLM system expert when triaging incidents in order to identify root cause and quickly recommend a solution

Industry Expertise in Product Data Management/Governance

  • Maintain or expand knowledge of industry best practices, technologies and ways of working. 
  • Actively engage with external partners, user groups, and experts with the intent of incorporating these into Hershey’s operating model for the PLM organization.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

 

Education:

Associate Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or Engineering required; Bachelors preferred or equivalent years of experience

 

Experience:

 

  • 5+ years business experience in CPG
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in successfully delivering high quality solutions in high pressure, structured environments using standard project management techniques and disciplines; 5+ years preferred
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management; 5+ years preferred
  • Proven experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects/areas of responsibility simultaneously
  • Ability to liaise with senior level external supplier and internal stakeholder representatives in a rational and measured manner to communicate progress, issues, risks and solutions
  • Proven ability to establish collaborative relationships with Senior Leaders and key business stakeholders across The Hershey Company
  • Ability to develop efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems
  • Ability to adapt and evolve methodologies and procedures in a controlled manner to continually improve the delivery and support channels
  • Proven ability to provide clear, concise communication to Senior Leaders
