Position: Principal Engineer
Location: Hershey, PA
Duties: Manage a group of multi-discipline engineers and trade experts; provide Mechanical, Electrical and Civil engineering design and guidance and set direction in the delivery of new and asset renewal utility system and infrastructure projects; interact with all disciplines within the Hershey Engineering organization & provide expertise and insight on operational matters; review strategic future projects for feasibility and completeness and ensure proposed mechanical, electrical and infrastructure systems solutions facilitate maximum return on capital investment; provide the optimal mechanical solution for a given project, including engineering support for all phases of the capital projects including development of system concepts, design, cost estimating, system installation, check-out, commissioning, and successful transition of deliverables including system operation manuals, maintenance documents, and technical knowledge to the plant staff; identify engineering alternatives that meet new business requirements or establish functional excellence; provide technical leadership and professional guidance as a Multi Discipline Subject Matter Expert; mentor younger engineers thru transfer of knowledge on a continual basis; and lead and manage diverse projects teams comprised of less experienced engineers, plant engineers and teams along with a broad composition of external contractors and suppliers. Possess the required business acumen to effectively negotiate with principals of outside vendors and municipality leaders in the best interest of THC. Have the ability to integrate knowledge and experience related to industry 4.0 and the digital transformation into the development of new projects and systems. Domestic travel (40% of work time) required. Hybrid remote work is permitted.
Requirements: Employer will accept Bachelor’s degree or equivalent* in Mechanical Engineering or related field; and five years of work experience in job offered or in a related occupation. * In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, employer will accept 2 years of work experience in job offered or related occupation. Experience must include one year of experience with each of the following:
- Experience leading and managing large and complex innovative projects of significant dollar amounts (over $100M) that impact the Company's strategic business direction.
- Experience leading and managing multiple large capital projects (in excess of $80M) and managing large/diverse contractor and supplier base (exceeding 80 resources) as such capital projects are implemented.
- Experience leading and directing activities of persons not directly assigned to the project team, e.g., Marketing persons, S&OP persons, IE's, R&D members, etc. including external contractors and suppliers.
- Experience ensuring all project implementation activities are in full compliance with all corporate capital control policies and procedures.
- Experience ensuring all assigned technical team members are working in a collective manner, work is technically correct for the project scope, and that all efforts are executed in a manner to maintain project budget and schedule.
- Experience ensuring all contractors and suppliers adhere to applicable Company safety, security, and contractual requirements.
- Experience providing key engineering functional advisement and direction to Senior Leadership during project development activities to ensure full project scopes, schedules, and budgets are developed, challenged, and critiqued.
- Experience providing report updates to senior management and finance department.
- Field construction experience relevant to leading design, procurement, installation, construction management, budget control and startup of all systems and operations department.
- Mechanical/HVAC and Utility System experience; civil, architectural, and electrical engineering experience.
- Experience with design and maintenance of general facility mechanical systems including utility supports systems, hot and chilled water systems, glycol applications and controls, steam generating and distribution systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, space conditioning HVAC equipment and duct systems and related BMS control systems, compressed air systems.
- Experience with sizing pumps, fans, and heat exchangers, writing sequence of operations for HVAC systems, performing heating and cooling load calculations, designing humidification and dehumidification and compressed air systems, and making proper and timely selection of equipment.
- Experience with electrical distribution systems, site and civil development and architectural standards.
- Experience in food or pharmaceutical industry related to manufacturing processes, construction practices, quality standards and codes that support manufacturing.
