This position is a senior leadership role on the Hershey Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be fully versed in critical packaging systems knowledge of the Hershey Company. The successful candidate will be expected to provide expert packaging systems engineering advice and set direction in the delivery of new and future packaging systems. This Sr Manager role will interact with the Hershey Engineering Leadership Team and the Leadership Team frequently and will be relied upon to provide expertise and insight in strategic decisions and packaging systems operational matters. Expectations are to challenge and advance new ways of achieving best in value packaging systems manufacturing results as well as provide packaging system designs that ensure personnel safety and product safety and quality. In addition, this individual will collaborate with colleagues across all global businesses to develop strong working relationships while creating the next generation of The Hershey Company’s packaging systems technical capabilities and packaging systems leadership.


· The Packaging Systems Engineering group in the Global Operations Engineering utilizes all aspects of conceptual engineering design, cost estimation techniques, project proposal development, supplier evaluations, equipment and system installation/start up, and successful transition of the system to the plant operating and maintenance staff. These solutions will include packaging and control support for all phases of capital projects including development of system concepts, design, cost estimating. This individual must demonstrate a willingness to identify packaging process and manufacturing alternatives that meet new business requirements or establish functional excellence.


· Provides technical leadership and professional guidance as Sr Manager for The Hershey Company and is fully versed in the in the practice of The Hershey Company Packaging Systems Engineering activities within the Hershey Engineering Department. The Sr Manager must include expertise in many of the following operations: product distribution systems, primary packaging design and layout, secondary packaging solutions, flow wrapping, bagging, pouching, cartoning, case packing, palletizing, robotics, and confectionery manufacturing operations.


· Leads and manages diverse projects teams comprised of both inexperienced and highly skilled packaging systems engineers, plant operations teams, along with a broad composition of external contractors and suppliers. Able to simultaneously manage multiple large and complex unit operations, devises methods and procedures to ensure process equipment systems operate as designed.


· Represent the Company in professional and industrial organizations as required. This allows individual to build a strong professional network, maintain freshness by learning current industry practices, and provides opportunity to benchmark packaging systems skills.


· May also be required when appropriate, to act as a Project Manager and Packaging Systems Engineer lead to execute critical process focused engineering projects. Must communicate business critical project activities effectively to all levels of management and manage project process budget, schedule decisions, and ultimately final project results.



Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Summary of major duties:


Actively leads, develops, and manages a team of internal and external of packaging systems engineers. Major responsibilities include Prepare manufacturing feasibility assessments and capital cost estimates for various packaging equipment-related projects; Packaging systems support of capital projects, including packaging systems design and equipment selection, creation of process flow diagrams, preparing equipment and construction bid specifications, and acquisition. Managing the packaging systems engineering portion of capital projects, including cost, schedule, and resources (internal and contractors), as well as leading multi-functional teams in project execution; Developing packaging systems suitable for implementation in a manufacturing facility within the required project timetable; and ensuring all packaging system designs deliver personnel safety as well as product safety and quality. Able to simultaneously lead and manage packaging systems capital projects as need and manage a large and diverse contractor and supplier base as capital projects are implemented. Ensures all packaging systems project implementation activities are in full compliance with all corporate capital control policies and procedures. Ensures all assigned technical team members are working in a collective manner, work is technically correct for the project scope, and all efforts are executed in a manner to maintain project budget and schedule. When directing and managing non-THC persons contracted to support the project implementation commitments, represents the Company in a manner as outlined in the Corporate Code of Business Ethics, and ensures all contractors and suppliers adhere to applicable Company safety, security, and contractual requirements.


Provides Critical Strategic Directional Input into Future Actively involved in the development of future packaging systems capital projects that have the potential to have major impact to Hershey Company business. Provides packaging systems technical development, schedule, and budgeting recommendations during project development assessments.
Supplies key packaging systems engineering functional evaluations and direction to Hershey Engineering business management to ensure comprehensive project scopes, equipment schedules, and capital budgets are developed. In addition, the Sr. Manager packaging is expected to challenge, and critique project scope and capital budget developed to ensure optimal functional design for our manufacturing network while meeting The Hershey Company capital goals. The Sr. Manager will also provide technical input to the development of innovation projects.


Secures the Strength of the Hershey Engineering Department by Creating Future Engineering Packaging Systems Subject Matter Experts Provides mentoring and coaching to junior packaging systems engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to provide opportunities for them to develop essential packaging systems technical skills. Focus will also be on developing critical thinking and creativity in these junior engineers, so they can work through the technically complex situations that they will run into in the future. This is key to create the next generation of The Hershey Company’s packaging systems technical capabilities and packaging systems leadership personnel.


Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education: BS and/or MS in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering Discipline

With B.S. Degree: 6- 8+ years’ experience in technical field. 
2 years min experience in a Technical/Commercial Integrating role, or similar managing people
