Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

 

PROJECT LEADERSHIP & TROUBLESHOOTING - Under light direction assume primary responsibility for undertaking and executing fundamental projects of major importance, complexity and scope with emphasis on solution of theoretical problems, or for supervising and coordinating the development efforts of projects having a major impact on the Company’s current and/or future business interests. Undertake projects as assigned, initiating own projects or recommending termination of projects as is necessary.  With direction, determine technical approaches to be explored as they apply to assigned project or self-initiated projects. Establish objectives and approaches to execute projects.  Secure appropriate information as necessary.  Solve problems through application of knowledge, experience, original thinking, and testing solutions.  Provide leadership and instruction to technicians and professionals assigned to assist on a project and provide coordination of efforts of other members of the project as a team as is necessary. Review project results and suggest the advisability of further tests and/or changes deemed necessary.  Prepare all project reports as required.  Make presentation of significant conclusions when pertinent.

 

METHOD DEVELOPMENT/EQUIPMENT SET-UP - Make recommendations for method development, or enhancement, designed to provide new analyses, produce more accurate data, or achieve cost savings. Also recommend, coordinate and implement equipment purchases and upgrades.

 

ROUTINE TESTING - Under light supervision, monitor ingredient, in-process or finished product quality through analytical testing.  Perform simple to moderately complex wet chemistry techniques (sample preparation, extraction and analysis).  Perform moderately complex chemical analyses using analytical equipment.  Operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation.  Prepare standards and controls. Record, compute and evaluate data as well as input data into LIMS.  Prepare tables and graphs of data as appropriate. Maintain Workstation Manuals.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities: 

 

  • Demonstrated experience using complex analytical instrumentation
  • Superior working technical knowledge of chemistry and related sciences
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge
  • Advanced problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail, especially with respect to laboratory techniques
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize, track and plan.
  • Superior communication skills in verbal and written form.
  • Proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point and LIMS
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and independently in a flexible work environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Lead analyst or supervisory experience (preferred)

 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

 

Education:

 

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry (preferred) or related science field

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience
