Summary:

The Sr Controls Engineer or Controls Engineer (depending of experience) will support medium complexity projects, with opportunities to develop technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking. For senior-level candidates, this role involves leading projects with minimal direction and leveraging strong technical expertise. The candidate must effectively communicate technical subjects, both written and verbally, across all organizational levels and influence stakeholders to provide engineering solutions.

 

In addition, this position will:

  • Develop and assess state-of-the-art control systems for manufacturing facilities.
  • Select, design, install, and commission control systems and automated equipment for capital projects, ensuring budget, schedule, and scope compliance.
  • Manage small capital projects, including cost, schedule, and resources.
  • Solve problems using experience, research, and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in manufacturing automation systems and components.
  • Understand Hershey processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with multifunctional team members and Hershey management.
  • For junior engineers, this role offers opportunities to develop these skills under the guidance of senior engineering staff.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in programming PLCs/PACs and motion control systems (Rockwell and Siemens preferred).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk SE/ME and Ignition preferred).
  • Familiarity with process instrumentation and Industrial Control Network hardware, topologies, and protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, P&IDs, control system design, and project estimation.
  • Beneficial experience in developing and installing 480 VAC, 120 VAC, and 24 VDC power systems.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Leadership, decision-making, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Adaptability to change and ability to execute projects on schedule and budget.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (>30%).

Minimum Requirements and Education:

  • BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related Engineering Field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience (Senior Engineer) or 0-1 years of experience (Engineer) in controls engineering for Food Processing, Confectionery, Pharmaceutical or related industries.
