Sr Engineer Controls

Job Location: 19 East – Hershey PA, Hybrid 

Summary:

The Senior Controls Engineer leads medium complexity projects with minimal direction. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking. The candidate must effectively communicate technical subjects, both written and verbally, across all organizational levels and influence stakeholders to provide engineering solutions.

Scope of Responsibility:

• Develops and assesses state-of-the-art control systems for manufacturing facilities.
• Selects, designs, installs, and commissions control systems and automated equipment for capital projects, ensuring budget, schedule, and scope compliance.
• Manages small capital projects, including cost, schedule, and resources.
• Solves problems using experience, research, and critical thinking.
• Demonstrates strong technical expertise in manufacturing automation systems and components.
• Understands Hershey processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
• Communicates effectively with multifunctional team members and Hershey management.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience in programming PLCs/PACs and motion control systems (Rockwell and Siemens preferred).
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk SE/ME and Ignition preferred).
• Familiarity with process instrumentation (temperature, level, pressure, flow, mass) and Industrial Control Network hardware, topologies, and protocols.
• Basic knowledge of electrical regulatory requirements.
• Experience with electrical schematics, P&IDs, control system design, and project estimation.
• Beneficial experience in developing and installing 480 VAC, 120 VAC, and 24 VDC power systems.
• Technical troubleshooting skills.
• Leadership, decision-making, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Adaptability to change and ability to execute projects on schedule and budget.
• Willingness to travel domestic >30% (Internationally 10%).

Minimum Requirements and Education:

• BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related Engineering Field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in controls engineering for Food Processing, Confectionery, Pharmaceutical or related industries.
