Job Overview
This role oversees teams and large engineering projects or portfolios that have significant organizational impact. It develops short-term strategic engineering plans, ensures cross-functional alignment, and drives consistent application of engineering methods and governance. The role identifies and manages major risks, escalations, and cross-system issues that influence project or portfolio outcomes. It builds organizational capability by developing people leaders, optimizing team structures, and enabling predictable delivery across multiple workstreams.
Accountabilities
1. Lead Delivery of Large Engineering Projects and Portfolios within Function Defines priorities, coordinates multiple teams, and ensures execution aligns with scope, schedule, and budget. Oversees integration across technical and operational workstreams to resolve issues affecting delivery. Ensures engineering standards and governance processes are consistently applied.
2. Develop Strategic Short-Term Engineering Plans Aligned to Broader Strategy Translates organizational objectives into short-term engineering plans that position teams for predictable execution. Aligns resources, sequencing, and technical requirements to ensure readiness across the project lifecycle. Adjusts plans as risks, constraints, or business needs evolve.
3. Communicate Portfolio Status and Influence Senior Stakeholders Delivers clear updates focused on progress, risks, and recommended actions to senior leaders. Presents trade-offs and technical implications to support decision-making and alignment across functions. Ensures stakeholder expectations remain synchronized throughout execution.
4. Manage Risks, Dependencies, and Escalations Leads cross-functional reviews to identify major engineering and operational risks affecting safety, quality, timelines, or cost. Validates mitigation plans, determines need for escalation, and monitors progress on corrective actions. Maintains visibility into overall program health to protect delivery commitments.
5. Develop People Leaders and Strengthen Organizational Capability Provides coaching, feedback, and development planning for managers and supervisors. Aligns organizational structures, roles, and responsibilities to improve engineering program delivery. Reinforces a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement across teams.
