Summary:
The Senior Manager, Transportation is responsible for leading the strategic and operational direction of the transportation function to ensure cost-effective, timely, and compliant delivery of goods across the supply chain. This role partners cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external carriers to optimize transportation networks, drive continuous improvement, and support customer satisfaction
Scope of Responsibility:
- Transportation Strategy & Optimization: Develop and implement transportation strategies that align with business goals, reduce costs, and improve service levels across all modes of transport.
- Carrier Management & Negotiation: Lead carrier selection, contract negotiations, and performance management to ensure reliable and cost-effective transportation services.
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of transportation professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements (DOT, FMCSA, etc.) and company policies, while proactively managing transportation risks and disruptions.
- Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement: Leverage transportation management systems (TMS) and analytics to monitor KPIs, identify inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- This role will require 20 % domestic travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strategic Thinking & Business Acumen: The ability to align transportation strategies with broader supply chain and business objectives is critical. This includes understanding market trends, cost drivers, and customer expectations in the CPG industry.
- Analytical & Data-Driven Decision Making: Proficiency in using data to drive decisions, optimize routes, and evaluate carrier performance is essential. Familiarity with TMS platforms and advanced Excel or analytics tools is a strong asset.
- Leadership & Team Development: Strong leadership skills to inspire, coach, and develop a high-performing team. The ability to manage change and foster collaboration across departments is key to success.
- Negotiation & Vendor Management: Expertise in negotiating contracts and managing third-party logistics providers is vital. This includes balancing cost, service, and risk while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
- Regulatory Knowledge & Risk Mitigation: Deep understanding of transportation regulations and compliance standards is necessary. The ability to proactively identify and mitigate risks ensures operational continuity and legal adherence.
Minimum Requirements and Education:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in transportation or logistics, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role. Experience in the CPG industry and with TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Manhattan) is highly desirable.
