Waste Water Pre-Treatment Plant Supervisor

Summary:
The Hershey Company Y&S Lancaster plant is a Non-Union plant producing Licorice Products such as Twizzlers, Nibs, and Pull & Peel, in a high-speed complex environment.
The Pretreatment Plant is an anaerobic membrane wastewater system. The Pretreatment Plant Supervisor is responsible for operating the Wastewater Pretreatment Plant within all regulatory requirements. This role will also assist EHS with environmental and safety compliance including, but not limited to, the completion of routine environmental reporting, storm water monitoring, and chemical spill response.
Responsibilities:
- Successfully operate the PTP to assure continued plant operations and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Perform daily operation tasks including, but not limited to, waste water testing, plant inspections and documentation of system readings / parameters, monitoring pre-treatment plant and anaerobic reactor conditions, and managing biogas system operations
- Prepare and process daily system performance reports
- Perform basic maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, etc.. Enter maintenance work notifications as needed.
- Provide 24 / 7 plant coverage by alternating on-call and weekend schedules
- Ensure pretreatment plant maintenance is properly documented and completed as required
- Ensure pretreatment plant operations follow all discharge parameters
- Maintain an organized and neat work environment
- Provide support to operations and participate on project teams as assigned.
- Identify, track, and support implementation of continuous improvement activities to improve WTP operations
- Maintain a five-year outlook on treatment plant capital needs
- Manage residual, hazardous and non-hazardous waste removal from the site
- Assist the EHS department with the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the plant’s environmental and safety regulatory compliance programs to ensure compliance with company and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
- Serve as liaison with external regulatory agencies and provide necessary documentation, reports, and follow-up, as needed
- Maintain regulatory permits and ensure renewals are completed in a timely manner
- Maintain a current working knowledge of environmental, safety and waste treatment regulations, as needed, to effectively perform duties
- Respond to and manage product and chemical releases in a timely and effective manner to minimize liability and negative impact on the business and surrounding environment
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
- Considerable knowledge of Pretreatment Plant operational principles
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental and safety regulations
- Strong computer and document management skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels in the plant
- Strong auditing / assessment skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing operations
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effect change without managing direct reports
- Ability to interact effectively with third party and internal auditors, as well as regulatory inspectors
- Position will primarily work 1st shift, but work schedule flexibility is required to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- B.S. degree in environmental engineering or related technical field preferred. High School diploma with significant related experience considered.
- PA DEP Wastewater Operators Certification required
- B.S. Degree plus 7+ years of related experience
- HS Diploma plus 15+ years of related experience
