Sr. Due Diligence Analyst

Summary:

 

As a vital member of our team, you will collaborate closely with regional teams and subject matter experts to advance our commitment to human rights and environmental due diligence within our cocoa supply chain. Your responsibilities will include the development and implementation of rigorous due diligence processes and procedures, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory mandates and enterprise priorities. You will drive increased assurance of our cocoa sustainability efforts, supporting continuous improvement and the quality of our disclosures.

 

 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:


Due Diligence Processes (40%)

  • Develop and document due diligence processes in collaboration with the corporate sustainability team and following international best practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence processes to assess and address environmental and human rights impacts within our cocoa operations, for example:
    • leading the regular review of origin assessments
    • managing response protocols in coordination with relevant parties
  • Analyze data and information to identify potential risks and opportunities related to environmental and human rights impacts, recommending actions to address risks and leverage opportunities.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to mitigate risks and enhance our environmental and human rights performance.

 

 

Assurance (20%)

  • Develop procedures that give greater assurance to the implementation of Hershey’s cocoa strategy and due diligence processes (e.g., auditing of supplier implementation, validation of due diligence related data, etc.), with an emphasis on risk mitigation.
  • Leverage findings from audit reports to recommend improvements to ongoing assurance practices.
  • Manage third-party assurance providers.
  • In collaboration with the team, identify opportunities to enhance the assurance model (e.g., changing incentives or adjusting controls).

 

 

Collaboration and Coordination (20%)

  • Collaborate with internal Hershey teams (e.g., regional cocoa sustainability teams, international procurement, responsible sourcing, innovation and R&D, manufacturing alliances) and other internal and external subject matter experts to gather relevant information and insights for due diligence and assurance processes.
  • Make recommendations for the strengthening of cocoa-specific and broader enterprise due diligence and assurance processes.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with partners and experts to support ongoing due diligence and assurance efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with regional teams to foster accountability among implementing partners.

 

 

Compliance and Reporting (10%)

  • Participate in the development of tools for gathering compliance information from suppliers.
  • Support reporting against regulatory requirements and enterprise priorities.

 

 

Cocoa Strategy Alignment and Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Ensure alignment with overarching global strategies for advancing social and environmental sustainability goals.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory developments in environmental sustainability and human rights.
  • Identifying opportunities to support the long-term cocoa strategic vision, undertaking research and analysis on related topics and themes as needed.

 

 

 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:  

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, and voluntary and mandatory frameworks for environmental and human rights due diligence.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese is an advantage. 

 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, in Environmental Science, Human Rights, Sustainability, or a related field.


Experience:

 

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in environmental, human rights, due diligence or related compliance roles (e.g., QRC, financial audits).
  • Experienced in global supply chains
  • Procedure and process documentation, development of management systems 
  • Experience working in the cocoa sector or similar industries is preferred.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Need to have experience with Supply Chain due diligence – environmental and human rights due diligence. 
  • Must have experience managing multinational regions (smaller International regions are fine but must have complexity in the supply chain)
  • Must have Cross-functional stakeholder management experience.
  • Must have worked in a highly matrixed organization. 
  • Must have worked with analytics or large data sets.
  • Food and beverage or FMCG background is a preference but not required.
