Business Process Automation Specialist

The Specialist Business Process Automation reports to the Manager, Intelligent Automation, and supports efforts to provide process automation capabilities to the Hershey Company.  The Hershey Business Platforms (HBP) Process Automation Team to works to identify, analyze, and implement opportunities for automation that can be leveraged across all areas of the company globally while adhering to the established Process Automation governance structure. The Specialist will work primarily with the Customer Service team, becoming especially familiar with their processes in order to better identify automation opportunities and propose effective and efficient solutions.

The Specialist will participate in all phases of the “automation cycle,” 

  • Identify and Analyze

  • Monitor and Improve 


Identify and Analyze: 

  • Collaborate with the global HBP Process Automation Team in the utilization of established procedures to analyze potential automation use cases
  • Participate in initial discussions to identify potential business processes for automation
  • Collaborate and establish business relationships with Process Owners and Subject Matter Experts to fully understand candidate processes
  • Methodically examine the structure of processes including upstream and downstream ramifications, making strategic decisions to determine fit for automation, fully understanding selection criteria 
  • Identify any process re-engineering opportunities
  • Estimate timelines for the development of automated processes
  • Manage automation priorities, scheduling implementation in accordance with company objectives and major initiatives like enterprise system upgrades
  • Establish partnership with Information Services and serve as a liaison with appropriate personnel to understand system capabilities and requirements


  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to identify business requirements
  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts to create process documentation to be used in automating processes, ensuring alignment with process policies and procedures
  • Maintain a single documentation repository that can be leveraged across the organization
  • Maintain existing documentation as changes are made to processes

Design, Test, and Implement:

  • Learn and become an expert in the Hershey designated software application for Process Automation (Blue Prism)
  • Using requirements and process documentation, design and build automation capabilities 
  • Lead testing efforts with Subject Matter Experts to fully unit test developed processes
  • Upon testing sign-off, partner with the Business Process Automation Controller to lead process implementation based on project timelines

Monitor and Improve:

  • Proactively collaborate with the Business Process Automation Controller to monitor automation resources to ensure optimal operational utilization
  • Proactively perform regular reviews/analysis of automated processes to identify process re-engineering opportunities 
  • Assist in establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor the Process Automation program

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Technology or other related fields
  • 5+ years of business experience
  • Proven experience in the successful delivery and support of Excel macros, Visual Basic scripts or other configuration/scripting type technology 
  • Understanding of workflow-based, if this-then that, logic and the ability to both understand a business process from a workflow diagram and to conceptualize it as an automated solution 
  • Willingness and ability to blend business analysis with hands-on configuration of automated processes in the designated automation software toolset
  • Proven experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects/areas of responsibility simultaneously
  • Strong technical skills with SAP, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong team building and interpersonal skills; strong facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and customer teams to generate new processes and/or resolve issues
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision required (self-starter)
