Financial Accountant - General Accounting (Supply Chain)

Summary:

 

The Supply Chain Accounting Analyst will provide accounting and financial guidance on US GAAP Reporting, Management Reporting, Policy Alignment & Compliance, Internal Controls, and operational processes related to Supply Chain Accounting. In this role, he will participate in and support Supply Chain Accounting period-end close processes and disclosure requirements.  He will also support the day-to day supply chain accounting and internal control processes. He provides data and insights to the Supply Chain Finance department to enhance forecast accuracy and decision support. The role will interact with peers and Management in Transportation and Warehousing, Supply Chain Finance, External Reporting, Commodities, Internal Audit, Manufacturing Accounting, Global Exports team and Global Business Services. As part of her/his responsibility, the role requires personal leadership, a “can do attitude” toward partnering with Accounting, Finance and Compliance functions, strong initiative, and frequent cross-functional teamwork. On an on-going basis, the Supply Chain Accounting Analyst is expected to perform based on the key result area of the process, meet/exceed metrics set based on the Key Performance Indicator, identify improvements, and execute related controls in-scope. 
 

 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Month-end Close Processes and Reporting (70%)

  • Supporting Monthly / Quarterly / Annual Accounting Close related to Freight and Inventory for the US and Canada, including Ocean Freight for International and AEMEA supply chain-related costs such as Stickering Cost, Air Freight, Demurrage, and Detention charges, etc.
  • Preparing necessary journal entries and reconciliations of key accounts.
  • Completing Blackline monthly close tasks as well as communicating timeliness to the Financial Data Control group.
  • Actively participating and periodically leading period close meetings and discussions.

 

 

Account Analysis and Issue Resolution (15%)

  • The Supply Chain Accounting Analyst is responsible for the supply chain and ocean freight general ledger account(s) analysis to ensure that the accrual is properly stated at the end of an accounting period. It includes the daily review and reconciliation of freight accrual and payment activities. The Supply Chain Accounting Analyst is also expected to work closely with internal business partners, including the Global Import/Export, Supply Chain Finance, and Controllers’ team, and provide support and analyses to address their accounting-related concerns.
  • The role will assist in the completion of daily CASS notification and pay files for US Freight.

 

 

Key Performance Indicator/ Metrics/ Service Level Agreement and Process Improvement (10%)

  • Record to Report has defined Service Level Agreement and Key Performance indicator Metrics for each function, which need to be met consistently.  The Supply Chain Accounting Analyst must ensure these metrics are met or exceeded.  Also, he must ensure that preventive and necessary actions are in place if metrics are not met.
  • The Supply Chain Accounting Analyst is also responsible for driving major work process changes that would significantly improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the process, which can either be quick wins or ongoing projects.

 

 

Internal and External Audit Support and Ad-hoc/Other Tasks (5%)

  • This role is responsible for the preparation and submission of documents required for internal or external audit of the Hershey books and work processes. Together with the RTR Associate Manager, he/she is responsible for the timely communication and resolution of issues identified during any internal or external audit to ensure safeguarding the internal controls of the RTR process.
  • Other related ad hoc roles that may be assigned to the supply chain or the overall RTR area.

     

 

 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties /responsibilities:  

 

Knowledge:

  • BS Accountancy, or its equivalent
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Basic understanding of Supply Chain Accounting concepts, Financial Reporting and Internal Controls
  • Proficient understanding of US GAAP and local GAAP
  • Basic knowledge of SAP 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word 
  • Ability to learn and utilize software such as SAP, Power BI, and Alteryx

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, in Accountancy

 

Experience:

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in the General Accounting Process
  • Certified Public Accountant is highly preferred
  • Must have end-to-end Accounting experience
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Basic knowledge in SAP/S4HANNA is a plus
  • Freight experience is a plus
  • Must be amenable to a morning shift (8:30AM to 5:30PM)
