Maintenance Technician I - Memphis Plant

The Hershey Company Memphis plant is a Non-Union plant producing products such as Ice Breakers, Breath Savers, and Good & Plenty, in a high-speed complex environment.  

 
Pay:  

 

Starting Payrate: $23.46 per hour.
 

Shifts: 

 

We require that you are flexible to work any shift, weekends, overtime, and holidays.
Schedule assignments upon hire are determined by plant needs.  
Regular schedule is 8-hour shifts; Mandatory overtime could be weekly (scheduled for up to 12 hours/day, Monday through Sunday), daily (additional 4 hours on your 8-hour shift) and weekends (8 to 12-hour shifts).

Qualified applicants will need to successfully complete a mechanical, written, and hands-on skills assessment.  Those receiving a passing score on both the written and hands-on mechanical skills assessment will advance to an onsite interview with the hiring team.  
Post-Offer Drug Screen, Physical Assessment and Background Check required.
  

Summary: 

 

Entry-level position into Maintenance Department. Attends formal training at an approved education facility/ curriculum. Under direction from supervisors and other maintenance professionals assists other team members while developing personal skill, equipment and process knowledge, maintenance repair and PM technical skills. Typical work includes but is not limited to preventative maintenance work on equipment, line setups, changeovers, repair/rebuilds, of equipment, components, and basic equipment / process improvement type work.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Accepts full responsibility for personal safety and following all safety procedures.
Follows all rules and regulations with regards to food safety and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
Understands and demonstrates the Hershey values.
Demonstrates good housekeeping practices.
Participates fully in the Apprenticeship Program to learn and understand equipment/process function/operation; develops technical skills through both in-house and external training.
Assists other team members with equipment repairs as needed.
Learns and performs repetitive PM (Preventative Maintenance) tasks on equipment; cleans & inspects a wide range of parts and equipment; repairs and/or reports further work needed. 
Understands and executes line setups and changeovers to ready production lines for operation.
Repairs/rebuilds equipment and components based on technical skill level.
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of facility, inside and outside equipment.
Communicates with both internal and external customers.
Reports work output through both verbal, written and computer-based programs (e.g., email, SAP, etc.).
Develops appropriate skill level on mobile equipment to support job duties (e.g., loads and unloads parts and packages).
Performs other duties as requested, directed or assigned based on skill level.


Position Requirements:

 

1.    Open to any shift: 1st (6:00-2:00), 2nd (2:00-10:00), 3rd (10:00-6:00)
2.    Works safely and follows all established plant policies and procedures.
3.    Possesses basic mechanical aptitude and/or electrical aptitude applicable to a manufacturing environment.
4.    Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5.    Possesses good math skills.
6.    Possesses basic computer skills.
7.    Understands and uses hand tools, power tools and other types of basic shop equipment.
8.    Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.
9.    Follows directions and shows attention to details.
10.    Shows a desire to learn and a willingness to participate/contribute in a team environments.
11.    Light to moderate physical effort required.
12.    Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 
13.    Majority of work performed in a plant environment.
14.    Some work requires being outside on plant grounds, this may include working in inclement weather.

    t.    Rigging including Wire Ropes, Chains, Hoists, Slings and Lifting, Equipment Movement
    u.    Pump Systems 
    v.    HVAC systems including controls for Air, Refrigerant, Pressure and Temperature.
    w.    Steam including Boilers, Temperature and Pressure Control, Condensate Control and System Operation and Performance.

     

Commitment Period: Commit to a 4 year in-house Apprenticeship Training.
