The Hershey Company Memphis plant is a Non-Union plant producing products such as Ice Breakers, Breath Savers, and Good & Plenty, in a high-speed complex environment.  


Pay: 
 

  • Starting Payrate: $32.31 per hour. Also will receive $1.00/hour shift differential pay

Shifts: 
 

  • 2nd  Shift position. We require that you are flexible to work weekends, overtime, and holidays.
  • Schedule assignments upon hire are determined by plant needs.  
  • Regular schedule is 8-hour shifts,  Mandatory overtime could be weekly (scheduled for up to 12 hours/day, Monday through Sunday), daily (additional 4 hours on your 8-hour shift) and weekends (8 to 12-hour shifts).

 

Candidate Process: 
 

  • Qualified applicants will complete an onsite interview followed by a mechanical hands-on skills assessment
  • Post-Offer Drug Screen, Physical Assessment and Background Check required

 

Summary:

Maintenance technicians are skilled in electrical and mechanical and utility maintenance.  Maintenance technicians' primary role is to maintain and optimize manufacturing equipment and systems.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Electrical:
 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of basic electricity and electronics
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70-E
  • Demonstrate an understanding of occupation-specific safety standards and procedures
  • Demonstrate ability to plan layout of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures consistent with specifications and local codes
  • Demonstrate proper techniques used to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduits
  • Demonstrate proper techniques used to install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, outlets, relays, and circuit-breaker panels
  • Demonstrate proper techniques used to connect wiring to circuit breakers, transformers, lighting fixtures, thermostats, intercoms, signaling systems, power equipment, or other components
  • Demonstrate proper technique used to check circuit connections to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components
  • Diagnose and repair or replace malfunctioning apparatus and components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, motors, generators, and fixtures
     

Mechanical:
 

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests


Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 2nd (2pm - 10pm) 
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must possess either a journeyman's card from a state approved apprenticeship program or a minimum of 5 - 7 years of hands on electrical and mechanical work in manufacturing systems maintenance.  This should include experience as a qualified machine repair person, toolmaker, or machine tool builder in troubleshooting, machine repair, tool making, machine building, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
  • Must be able to achieve a passing score on a written Mechanical NOCTI exam
  • Must have basic understanding of PCs and basic computer skills

  • Mechanical drive systems including chains, belts, shaft, and gear drives
  • Pump systems
  • HVAC systems including controls for air, condensate, pressure and temperature
  • Steam including boilers, temperature and pressure control, condensate control and system operation and performance


Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Food manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Experience with Safe Quality Food (SQF) practices is preferred
  • Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is preferred
  • Experience with Autonomous Maintenance (AM) is preferred
  • Experience with Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) is preferred
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement methodology is preferred
