Job Title: Production Operator - Memphis Plant

Location: Memphis, TN

 

Job Description:

 

The Hershey Company Memphis plant is a Non-Union plant producing products such as Ice Breakers, Breath Savers, and Good & Plenty, in a high-speed complex environment. Production is fast-paced and operators are expected to work in a variety of roles in processing and packaging within the plant. Operators are responsible for maintaining our highest quality of food safety standards, sanitation standards, perform daily audits, and complete daily production paperwork

Shifts:

 

  • Currently we are offering a 8 hour shift ; we require that you are flexible to work any shift, weekends, overtime, and some holidays
  • Schedule assignment upon hire is determined by plant needs. Once your training period begins, you will be assigned to a shift and/or schedule based on current plant need.
  • You will be eligible to bid on other jobs, schedules and shifts after being in your assigned position for one year.
  • Mandatory overtime could be daily or weekly (additional 4 hours on your 8-hour shift) and weekends (8 to 12-hour shifts).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Know and follow current good manufacturing practices, safe work habits, plant dress codes, hygiene standards and housekeeping requirements unique to the work area and job classification.

 

 

  1. Operate electric pallet jack.  Must be licensed to operate the electric pallet jack, and must meet the minimum requirements as required by the plant and industry safety regulations.

 

  1. Position requires operator to be able to work flexible hours and may require overtime, which includes weekends and possibly holidays.

 

  1. Ability to perform proper lockout/tagout procedures in compliance with plant and OSHA guidelines.

 

  1. Operate all equipment, monitor quality, speed, waste, rework and weight.

 

  1. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. (25 lbs repetitively)

 

  1. Must be able to multitask and learn several different types of machinery.

 

  1. Must be flexible to do any job that is assigned.

Minimum Requirements: 

 

Education or Experience:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Computer skills helpful.

 

  • Certificate:  Electric Pallet Jack license. Requires ability to operate a drying tunnel.

 

  • Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.    Ability to speak effectively to other employees or customers. 

 

  • Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. 

 

 

  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with situations involving several variables.  Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.  Ability to observe and read instruments, gauges, dials, etc. to determine operating conditions.  Ability to inspect, examine and observe for obvious product or equipment defects not easily identified. 

 

  • Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand; regularly push/pull force of up to 45 pounds; and regularly walk, crouch, bend at waist, turn, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.  Additionally, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus are required to perform this job.

 

  • Work Environment:  The noise level of the work environment is usually loud.  Use of hearing and eye protection is required.

 

  • Clean Work Record: Must have a clean work record for the past 6 months.

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work around operating equipment, stand, reach, stoop, crawl, bend and climb ladders
  • Work from heights and in confined spaces
  • Repetitive use of hands, wrists, and forearms
  • Work in variable temperatures (60-100 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Walking and standing for the majority of the shift
