Summary:

 

 

As part of the Hershey Tax team, a successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with an industry-leading consumer packaged goods company known for bringing goodness to the world by helping to manage its iconic brands and collaborating with remarkable people.  This is an exciting experience working in a highly visible role within the organization while gaining exposure to all areas of tax (corporate income, value added tax, international tax strategy) as well as specialty tax areas (compliance, accounting, audit defense, planning, and acquisitions).  The team is looking for a candidate that is a strong team player with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and pivot among multiple projects, while continuously striving to add insights, value, and help grow the team and company.  A successful candidate will expand their tax expertise enabling success on both at an individual and company level as well as obtain an in-depth understanding of a large-scale consumer packaged goods provider (including domestic manufacturing and international supply chain).  The position will report to a tax manager.

 

 

 

Income Tax Compliance

 

 

  • assist with the Canadian and provincial tax return and supporting calculations
  • preparation of monthly tax payment requests
  • assist with tax research
  • preparation of true-up entry and tax return entry
  • analysis of tax accruals
  • coordinate and work with external advisors for consulting purposes
  • preparation and filing of NR-4 return as well as quarterly/annual payments
  • assist with the audit process and work directly with the auditors

 

 

 

Sales Tax

 

 

  • preparation and filing of federal and provincial monthly/annual sales tax returns
  • assist with information gathering and review of tax returns for employer pension plan
  • coordinate recovery reviews with outside service provider
  • collaborate with sales and finance teams to address indirect tax inquiries

 

Tax Accounting

 

 

  • compute quarterly and year-end tax provisions according to US GAAP 
  • prepare quarterly and year-end tax reconciliations
  • prepare and post quarterly and yearend journal entries
  • ensure compliance with SOX controls and risk management protocols

 

 

 

Education and Experience

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting
  • CPA (or in process)
  • Minimum of 2+ years of corporate tax or public accounting experience, preferred

  • Excellent oral/written communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to learning in a tax technology setting with proficiency in a technology-enabled environment; knowledge of automated tax processing systems and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to travel and work within Canada and the United States on occasion
  • Must be able to team with other groups (Accounting, Treasury, Finance Strategy/M&A and Legal, etc.).
  • Strong professional ethics and integrity
