Job Title: Tax Manager

Location: Mississauga

Work Setup: Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days at home)

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: As a member of Hershey Tax, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become part of an industry-leading consumer products company known for bringing goodness to the world through its iconic brands and remarkable people.  This is an exciting chance to join Hershey Tax in a very visible role within the organization while gaining exposure to all areas of Canadian income and indirect tax (federal and provincial) and specialty tax areas (compliance, accounting, audit defense). This role will be a member of the Canadian Finance Team and work directly with local finance leaders for Hershey Canada.

 

The candidate should be a strong team player with a demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage and pivot among multiple projects, while also continuously striving to add insights, value, and growth to Hershey Tax and the Canadian business.  The successful candidate will expand their tax business and expertise, enabling success on both an individual and company level.  While Canada is the main area of responsibility for this role, there is potential to expand scope to include global or additional jurisdiction activities, as skills and workload permit.

Summary of major duties & key responsibilities:

1.

30%

Canadian Income Tax Compliance & Audits

  • Lead Canadian federal and provincial income tax compliance, providing management of externally prepared annual income tax returns and supporting documentation to ensure technical accuracy, consistency with company tax positions, and alignment with financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review book‑to‑tax difference workpapers, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
  • Oversee monthly estimated income tax instalments and required February payments, ensuring compliance with Canadian requirements.
  • Prepare and post true‑up and tax return journal entries.
  • Analyze and reconcile income tax accrual and payable accounts, maintaining alignment between tax provision, compliance, and statutory reporting.
  • Lead Canadian income tax audits, serving as the primary point of contact with tax authorities and external auditors, coordinating information requests, gathering data from information systems, and supporting efficient audit resolution.

2.

Canadian Transaction Taxes & Audits

  • Own Canadian indirect tax compliance, including preparation and filing of federal and provincial transaction tax returns and related payments.
  • Lead GST/HST/QST tax audits, acting as the primary contact with tax authorities and coordinating data requests and audit responses.
  • Prepare and review monthly transaction tax reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain transaction tax configuration in ERP system, including updates to federal and provincial tax rates.
  • Provide transaction tax guidance to the business, researching taxability of products and transactions to support operational decisions.
  • Review tax assessments and support property tax appeals as needed.

Tax Accounting

  • Prepare quarterly and year‑end income tax provisions, including inputs to OneSource tax provision software.
  • Partner with external auditors, responding to tax accounting inquiries and supporting audit requirements.
  • Prepare and post quarterly and year‑end tax journal entries, ensuring accurate financial statement reporting.
  • Oversee SOX controls and tax risk management related to income tax accounting processes.

4.

Income Tax Planning

  • Identify and support Canadian income tax planning opportunities, partnering with the global tax team on strategy, development, implementation, and local change management.
  • Prepare and maintain transfer pricing documentation, ensuring alignment with business operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide tax support for corporate M&A transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and amalgamations.

 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • CPA or JD preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years of Canadian corporate tax or public accounting experience
  • Organized with a problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to utilize global ERP and tax systems (e.g., S/4HANA, OneSource)
  • Excellent oral/written communication and teamwork skills
  • Proficient in MS office and advanced Excel
  • Strong professional ethics and integrity
