Position - Assistant Manager Packaging

 

 

Summary: 

Responsible for packaging design and development execution. Support cross-functional project teams to identify and implement innovative packaging designs and processes. Leverage strategic partnerships to identify new spaces for exploration. This position provides project leadership of some medium/high complexity projects, leading workstreams within larger projects and programs. A medium to high level of autonomy of medium/high-level complexity projects, or high level of autonomy for low complexity projects is expected. A successful candidate is expected to have an advanced knowledge of technical competencies with a focus on building technical breadth.  This candidate is expected to communicate project updates to cross-functional team members and management.

 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

 

1. Development and Project Leadership  -

  • Design and development of end to end packaging solutions for innovation /renovations projects based on functional, technical, consumer insights or business briefs.
  • Conduct component evaluation, testing to generate action standards, test methods, specifications.
  • Support cross-functional development teams to integrate packaging innovation into Front of Funnel platforms.
  • Lead and accomplish packaging initiatives (Vendor development, Factory trials, travel tests, stability studies) related to project delivery with cross functional team members, factories and vendors
  • Provide packaging input into networks and project management for allocated projects
  • Support supply chain and procurement teams on alternate vendor development, troubleshooting and harmonization projects
  • Drive Sustainability goals as per company ESG commitments and country regulation by supporting packaging specific ESG initiatives in India market.
  • Responsible for design and development execution, focusing on consumer insight driven platform-able packaging solutions

 

 

2. Value Engineering/Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and deliver packaging value engineering/CI projects in collaboration with procurement and plant operations
  • Category Benchmarking for insights and comparison

 

 

3. Continuous Self Development & Improvement

  • Develop and maintain a professional knowledge of new and emerging trends in packaging technology.
  • Identify areas of opportunity to implement new technologies/capabilities into packaging solutions as dictated by business needs.
  • Demonstrate Hershey behavioral standards. Identify ‘Ways of Working’ gaps, develop action plan to close gaps in collaboration with line manager, and actively work to close gaps to strengthen skills and capabilities.

 

 

Knowledge Required - 

  • Demonstrated consumer focused mind set and can apply design thinking facilitated by a good knowledge of materials and equipment to solve consumer needs and deliver meaningful experiences.
  • Experience with design and development of innovative packaging solutions is considered a key advantage.

  • Good understanding of the technical aspects of packaging including different materials, converting technologies, equipment, and processes
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, ambiguous work environment

  • Strong liaison / connectivity to Global Team may need flexibility in working hours due to time-zone differences.
  • Travel: Up to 30% (to Hershey plants, supplier & other manufacturing locations as applicable)

 

 

Education - Bachelors’ /PG degree in Packaging, Printing or Plastics Engineering or equivalent

 

 

Experience - 

  • 6+ years’ experience in related consumer goods field (preferably in the FMCG/CPG segment)
  • SAP Knowledge(PLM )/Artwork management Skills
