Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra


The role is responsible for effective implementation of Procurement Strategy, Lead procurement of Direct Raw and Packaging Material for Hershey India Manufacturing & Co-Manufacturing Locations, across India, that meet Hershey’s specification and support production schedules. Identify/Onboard Suppliers (Homegrown/Overseas), Negotiate purchases with suppliers to obtain quality materials at the most favorable prices. Manage the entire process of procurement including quality, analyzing requirements, scheduling, expediting, inventory management, accounts payable, supplier relations, and any other issues which facilitate the smooth flow of material into Hershey India Manufacturing Locations. Communicate appropriate information to management. Job is performed with minimum supervision. Position would be based on Hershey India Corporate Office, Mumbai with extensive travel, from time to time.



Direct procurement strategy

  • Formulate procurement strategy for the mid to long-term, along with AVP Procurement, own the Procurement Strategy for Raw and Packaging Material for Hershey India
  • Track/Monitor critical commodity prices such as Sugar, Corn Sweeteners, Dairy Ingredients, Cocoa Ingredients, Flavours, Packaging Material, etc., anticipate its movements in the mid to long-term, and the consequent impact on the aligned budget.
  • Prepare procurement plan based on business requirements, review procurement plan against historical parameters / changed scenarios and market realities and develop the indicative direct procurement budget for the organization.  Estimate projected volume of Raw & Packaging material required to meet the production plans plus maintenance of safety stock for critical ingredients
  • Track actual spent on budget with planned



Material Procurement 

  • Negotiate prices with approved vendors to obtain high quality, lowest possible cost material that meet Hershey’s requirements and specifications with main focus on operations. Evaluate alternative suppliers as required to maintain competitive pricing.
  • Lead cost saving initiatives and implement in relevant materials to improve the product competition. Track and deliver on cost saving Initiatives.
  • Support Innovation product development. Assist internal customers to identify requirements, specifications and provides support to facilitate at the development stage so as to ensure availability of products.
  • Import of Ingredients & Packaging, Customs Documentation/Clearance, with the help of Customs House Agents.



System Work & Record Management

  • Use SAP/R3, Artwork Management System and Accolades, and other Hershey-provided tools to determine standard cost and maintain and validate purchase information and source list. Evaluate and analyze Purchase Price Variance. Update purchasing records and reports.



Policy & Procedure Implementation 

  • Ensure all purchases are conducted in compliance with Hershey Global Procurement Policy with proper documentation, processes and meet company systems requirements.
  • Ensure the practice of the Hershey’s Code of Ethical Business Conduct.



Internal Stakeholder Management

  • Align with teams like Demand & Supply Planning, Manufacturing, R & D, Quality & Regulatory Compliance, Marketing, Sales & Allied Functions in order to provide support with regard to regular requirements & NPD or vendor development negotiation etc.,
  • Support GBS team on Accounts Payable.
  • Support Internal & External Audits.



People Management

  • Conduct interviews for selecting right candidate for open positions
  • Cascade overall functional goals for team, set up objective goals and conduct periodic performance reviews
  • Guide teams and drive engagement by applying consistent standards for performance management, providing equal opportunities of training and job rotation, and recommending job enlargement and promotions of deserving team members
  • Communicate regularly with team members to provide organizational/functional updates, resolve conflicts, create intra-functional work groups, etc.

  • Ontime & In Full Delivery of Materials across Manufacturing Locations as per Plan for existing & new Products

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities: 


  • Deep understanding of food safety and Quality
  • Understanding of FMCG Business Strong, Proven Sourcing Skills, Strategic & Operational Expertise: Ability to manage the entire process of procurement
  • Knowledge of Commodities, Ingredients & Packaging Market – Locally Sourced & Imported
  • Knowledge of dealing with Suppliers outside India.
  • Knowledge of Customs & Customs Clearance.
  • Knowledge of purchasing principles/techniques and inventory analysis and control
  • Knowledge in conducting RFQ/RFP bidding exercises, and negotiation skill.
  • Ability of Contract Management.
  • Knowledge of Supplier Performance Management
  • Should be conversant with latest best practices.

  • Extensive Travel within India and International (20%) as needed.
  • Plant with co-manufacturing handling experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and rich experience in Project handling 
  • Excellent communication skill, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Deep understanding of negotiations, partnerships and alliances
  • Exposure in handling global suppliers with strong leadership skills for managing the internal teams.
  • Demonstrated change management abilities, including conflict resolution skills.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 


Education: MBA (Operations/Supply Chain Management) or B.E/B.Tech


Experience: 10 -15  Years in Procurement (experience handling Chocolate, Confectionery & Beverages is a plus)
