Quality Manager
Job Location: Plymouth, IN
Summary
This position will be responsible for all food safety and quality components and standards within the facility and lead R&D/new product development projects. This includes the facilitation and standardization of all quality processes such as raw material verification, in process quality inspection, formula validation, quality assurance, etc. The position will be responsible for quality control personnel across 4 shifts and lead improvement initiatives in all aspects as it relates to quality and sanitation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead improvement of the current quality assurance process. This includes quality systems review process (QRS), Standard operating procedures (SOP’s), incoming ingredient inspections, product scoring, addresses field complaints, and develops Standard work instructions.
- Works with the quality team to execute SQL plans to achieve/maintain SQF certification at the facility in the all pretzels incorporated requirements related to the quality program.
- Facilitate and standardize off and safety, HACCP, third party audit adherence and customer
- Lead improvement initiatives in all aspects as it relates to food safety. This includes food defense systems review process, standard operating procedures (SOP's), incoming ingredient inspections, product scoring, address field complaints, and developing standardized work instructions.
- Designated SQF practitioner with responsibility and authority to oversee the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF system.
- Responsible for the facilitation and execution of third party audit requirements such as SQF and AIB.
- Execute SQL plans to achieve maintain SQF certification at the facility and to meet all Pretzels Inc requirements related to food safety and quality program.
- Execute departmental goals and execute improvement initiatives to achieve said goals that align with current business objectives
- Manage finished product evaluation system and provide leadership to drive improvements in key customer/consumer food safety attributes as they relate to quality.
- Responsible for establishing and implementing the training needs of personnel related to product legality, safety and food safety as it relates to product quality.
- Oversee Pre-requisite programs, food safety and quality.
- Train personnel and maintain all training records on critical quality and food safety requirements.
- Manager on quality plans.
- Provide guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occurred or a potential risk has been identified.
- Create, monitor, and improve current product formulas and specifications.
- Responsible for improving the quality department.
- Establishes departmental goals and executes improvement initiatives to achieve said goals that align with current business objectives.
- Manages the finished product devaluation system and provides leadership to drive improvements in key customer and consumer quality attributes.
- Works closely with production to lead any R&D efforts including the formulation of product and evaluating or creating standard work instructions for the proper production of new items.
- Overseas monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meet the facilities food and safety quality plans.
- Assure that our sanitation is at acceptable levels after cleaning and sanitizing our equipment.
- Assure that all policies and procedures are followed to protect our product from a quality and food safety perspective.
- Act as primary contact and deputy with GFC for all matters related to implementation, maintenance and certification.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related field or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of food processing experience.
- 3+ years in a Quality Management role with similar responsibilities
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to improve cohesion of the quality department with other areas.
- Ability to initiate and implement improvements with limited resources.
- Ability to analyze the process for Biological, Chemical, and Physical hazards with a thorough understanding of the science and support behind each type of hazard and each step of a production process.
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of industry best practices as it relates to Quality.
- SQF Practitioner
- Experience with Corrective Action Systems.
- Strong computer skills with experience using Word, Excel, Access, Power Point
- HACCP Certified
- Implementing SQF Systems Training
Preferred Skills
- Proven record working as a business partner in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Experience in working with decision makers on business strategies and objectives.
- Experience with ERP implementation and integration of current quality processes.
- 1+ year experience in new product development in any industry.
- Good problem-solving skills and corrective action/resolution skills.
- Very good organizational skills.
