Summary:

The Controls and Automation Supervisor (Staff Engineer Electrical) is a key member of the technical leadership team at the Hershey Stuarts Draft, VA production facility.  This position manages a group of salaried controls specialists, a PI data specialist and the IT function for the site.  This role is responsible for ensuring that plant electrical, controls and network systems are fully operational and reliable in order to support the conversion of raw materials to finished product, while adhering to schedule, rate of production and all quality specifications.  Key responsibilities of the position include managing electrical engineering/controls projects, troubleshooting complex controls issues and oversight of the plant’s electrical infrastructure.

 

This position will be involved primarily with various projects to improve employee safety, product quality, process efficiency/cost reduction, facility improvements as well as employee morale.  This role is a senior level position that will have the opportunity to support, lead and manage capital projects in the areas of processing and packaging equipment as well as facilities and plant utilities.  It is a vital role for the Stuarts Draft location due to the complexity of plant processes, level of technology (and varying technologies) and the number of processes influenced by controls function (essentially all).

 

This position not only manages others, but, as noted above, is also responsible for managing technical projects and serving as a resource for any and all electrical issues across the plant.  The Controls and Automation Supervisor will be responsible for managing controls obsolescence and energy management for the site as well as providing input to specific areas of the engineering budget.  This position is also often involved in assisting the corporate engineering team with policy updates.

 

The Stuarts Draft facility is over 1.1 million square feet in size.  It is a facility of high complexity, including high-speed wrapping, with over 600 PLC’s.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Previous exposure and/or knowledge in the areas of:
    • Electrical safety
    • Electrical schematics including single line diagrams
    • Knowledge of the National Electric Code
    • PLC programming (Allen-Bradley), industrial automation, instrumentation, process control and motor control
    • HMI programming
    • Troubleshooting control systems
    • Knowledge of networking including PI network servers, OS patching, virtual machines, process control networking, firewall management and OT computer systems,
    • Project management, both large and small projects, and administration, including forecasting of capital spending
    • Managing a team of technical individuals
  • Preferred, but not required, experience includes:
    • Power distribution experience/switchgear and substation maintenance including creation of JSA’s
    • Arc flash modeling
    • Behavior-based safety experience
  • Skills:
    • Sound understanding of electrical engineering and networking fundamentals
    • Ability to apply logical thinking to solving problems and objectively evaluate project alternatives
    • The ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently
    • Experience managing a team of technical professionals
    • Experience working with contractors and suppliers
    • Experience training and developing others

  • The position may require domestic and international travel, at times, to support assigned capital projects.

 

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical/Mechatronics or similar degree).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing. 

 

Preferred Skills / Requirements:

  • Prior experience in the food or pharmaceutical industries a plus including knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
  • Experience utilizing SAP a plus
  • PE and PMP certifications
