HVAC / Utility Mechanic - Stuarts Draft Plant

The Hershey Company Stuarts Draft plant is a Non-Union plant producing products such as Reese's (peanut butter cups, FastBreak, Sticks, Pieces, filled shapes and NutRageous), Baking Chips, Take5, Mounds, Almond Joy, Whatchamacallit & Cookie Layer Crunch, in a high-speed complex environment
Pay:
- Starting pay range: $33.75 and $44.64 per hour depending on experience / skill level
- $1.00 per hour shift differential for working 2nd or 3rd shift
- Overtime potential
- Manufacturing Incentive Plan (MIP) Eligible
Shifts:
- We require that you are flexible to work any shift, weekends, overtime, and holidays
- Working hours would be 6:00 pm - 6:30 am on a rotating schedule (ie. 2 days on, then 2 off, then 3 on then 2 off, then 2 on then 3 off)
- Initial training would be completed on first shift, typically for the first 3-4 months
- Schedule assignments upon hire are determined by plant needs. You will be eligible to bid on other schedules, shifts and jobs when they are posted.
- Mandatory overtime could be weekly, daily and/or weekends.
Summary:
The HVAC / Utilities Technician will operate, maintain and repair all equipment used to compress and clean air; treat, heat and/or cool water; generate steam; HVAC systems and peripheral cooling systems – as well as all accessory and associated equipment. Provide assistance to manufacturing when called, work with vendors, understand and follow company policies, procedures and all safety and security regulations and policies.
Candidate skill set should include:
- Completion of an approved Virginia Department of Labor & Industry maintenance mechanic and refrigeration mechanic apprenticeship programs or the equivalent
- Minimum 3+ years experience operating, maintaining and repairing refrigeration, HVAC, steam and compressed air systems.
- A valid and current EPA 608 universal refrigeration certification.
- Demonstrated ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate ability to interpret and understand blueprints, P&ID’s, piping schematics, electrical circuitry drawings, engineering sketches, standards & specifications, gauges, meters, graphs, charts and reference tables.
- Experience in diagnosing, repairing and installing both mechanical and electrical components across a variety of utility systems.
- Experience in the use of fork lifts, scissors lifts, miscellaneous lifts, step & extension ladders.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate both written & verbally regarding shift activities, equipment issues and corrective measures taken to investigate and solve equipment and system problems.
- Skills to document accurate information of equipment repairs, troubleshooting steps, parts used and time spent in the SAP work order system.
This position will require:
- Mechanic will be required to work rotating shifts including scheduled weekends, holidays and overtime, and unscheduled overtime as required for utility operation.
- Mechanic must routinely check equipment located external to the plant, which requires walking, climbing, bending etc. in all weather conditions.
- Mechanic must load containers, remove and install equipment which will require lifting and dexterity.
- Mechanic to quickly gain familiarity with the plant layout and equipment locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Food manufacturing experience is highly desirable
- Experience with Safe Quality Food (SQF) practices is desirable
- Experience with Continuous Improvement methodology is beneficial
- Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is preferred
- Experience with Autonomous Maintenance (AM) is preferred
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to work around operating equipment, confined spaces, stand, reach, stoop, crawl, walk, climb ladders and bend
Working Conditions:
- Work will be performed within a manufacturing facility
- The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to include but not limited to safety toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, bump camps, hair and beard nets, and gloves
- Wearing Company-issued arc flash rated uniforms is a requirement
- Wearing arc rated and voltage rated PPE is a requirement for designated electrical tasks
