Wastewater & Environmental Systems Lead

Summary

The Wastewater & Environmental Systems Lead, will manage the Wastewater Pretreatment Plant and ensure Environmental compliance and Sustainable operations across multiple functions and operations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage operations at the Wastewater Pretreatment Plant
  • Identify and lead performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all Wastewater Pretreatment Permit Requirements
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates wastewater operators
  • Inspects plant machinery, equipment, grounds and facilities to determine need for repair or corrective actions
  • Estimates materials and supplies needed
  • Investigates and responds to complaints
  • Responds to emergencies
  • Directs and may participate in the safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment
  • Inspects and monitors performance of contractors when assigned
  • Knowledge and implementation of all aspects of company’s sampling and testing programs.

 

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Environmental laws and regulations
  • Oversee and manage Environmental operating licenses and permits (Air, hazardous waste, wastewater pretreatment, stormwater, and others as applicable), including collection of stormwater samples, submittal of permit applications, periodic renewals, and associated reporting.
  • Develop and submit regulatory reporting including but not limited to hazardous and non-hazardous waste reports, TRI reporting, and EPCRA Tier II submittals
  • Develop and implement training to ensure compliance with Environmental Regulations, Permits and Licenses
  • Investigate any environmental concerns or issues and ensure the company meets its objectives of minimizing environmental impact
  • Conduct audits and evaluations of work procedures to ensure effectiveness of environmental measures
  • Complete Hazardous Waste inspections. Completes inspection reports, follows up with work area representatives to resolve any noted discrepancies, and verifies completed actions on close out reports.
  • Ensure all projects comply with environmental best practices and procedures
  • Document construction activities and provide recommendations for modifying and/or improving environmental measures
  • Stay informed with environmental trends and legislations

 

Sustainability

  • Support The Hershey Company – Stuarts Draft Plant Sustainability strategy and program
  • Lead sustainability related projects with the intent to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance

 

Chemical Management

  • Maintain Approved Chemical List and ensure employees have access to all SDSs.
  • Ensure Compliance with OSHA Hazard Communication Standards
  • Lead the Chemical Review Committee and evaluate chemical approval requests

 

Environmental, Health, and Safety Support

  • Evaluate and implement Corporate directives and site level procedures
  • Perform regular internal audits and safety assessments, document findings, and follow-up on non-conformances.  Report on findings and work with plant management to develop action plans to address deficiencies.  Ensure action plans are implemented, and necessary follow up occurs. 
  • Perform other duties as defined by EHS Manager.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Three (3) years of acceptable operating experience in Wastewater Treatment
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Knowledge of Federal/State/Local regulations regarding safety and environmental issues (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, EPA, DOT).
  • Expertise to investigate complex environmental problems and apply sound technical judgment to develop possible solutions
  • Experience with analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex data or situations so that others
  • 24 or 40-hour Hazardous Waste Training (HazWOPER) preferred
  • DOT HazMat Certified preferred
  • Wastewater Operator License a plus
  • Professional certifications such as FE, PE, CHMM, ASP, CSP a plus.
