Summary
The purpose of this position is to effectively manage, control, analyze, and account for costs within the Inventory section of the Balance Sheet along with the Cost of Goods Sold and Distribution sections of the P&L: 1. Average Costing, 2. Purchase Price Variances, 3. Inventory valuation, 4. Warehousing, 5. Customer and Shuttle Freight. Primary responsibilities include accurately reconciling and accruing for costs in line with GAAP requirements, providing insights into processes impacting the accounting/reporting function, and identifying areas of improvement in the internal control environment (including SOX controls). Inventory Management, COGS, and Distribution represent high risk areas of the Company therefore this position will be a key contributor to the maintenance of new processes to report against the constantly changing environment by means of cross-functional collaboration and work with Co-man / 3PL partners in the implementation of system improvements.
Responsibilities:
Sarbanes Oxley Process, Controls and compliance
Collaborate with Internal Audit for the setup of Supply Chain Sarbanes Oxley controls
Collaborate in cross-functional process and system improvements.
Work cross-functionally and with Co-man / 3PL partners in the implementation of system improvements and Sarbanes Oxley controls
Perform control reviews, including SOX controls, assigned to the Accounting, and Supply Chain functions to ensure that these are followed and understood by the various departments involved.
Accounting
Assisting in month-end close related to inventory, COGS (Cost of Goods Sold), and/or Distribution.
Reconciling inventory adjustments from co-manufacturing plants and distribution centers to assure proper classification within the financial statements
Analyzing manufacturing costs to identify production variances to determine any issues that need to be addressed with the BOM (building of materials).
Periodic reconciliation of all inventory location portals to S4 software system.
Reconcile plant production, shipments, and receipt of goods from manufacturers and distribution center software system to y software system.
Perform manual inventory adjustments when needed as automated processes EDI processes are not successful.
Operational and Financial Analysis & Reporting
Analyzing cost and operational trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
Enabling the research and explanation of anomalies and unusual variances
Monitor cycle counts at co-manufacturing plants and distribution centers
Identify insights based on available KPI dashboards to enable improvements.
Minimum knowledge and skills
Prior experience with Sarbanes Oxley control compliance requirements preferred
Strong Analytical skills
Knowledge of accounting and policies and procedures
Strong Excel skills and competence with other Microsoft functionality
Strong computer skills – comfortable using various systems
Strong collaboration and teambuilding skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with Senior Management and external auditors
Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Ability to synthesize massive amounts of data into clear, concise conclusions for management
Experience with SAP and other systems (EDI) a plus
Education
B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent
Experience
Position requires 1 - 2 years of experience in accounting/finance positions; prefer some experience in Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment
Previous experience working with Accounting, Sales and Finance in consumer product industry is a plus
