Job Title: QRC Supervisor PDM Specifications

Location: Remote (Onsite in Hershey, PA preferred)

 

Role Overview:

This role is designed to lead the team and support work activities to define and develop specifications for food safety and quality attributes relative to Ingredients and Finished Products.  The QRC Supervisor PDM works independently under direction from the Dir Mfg Quality Systems & Labs and collaboratively with R&D and Operations personnel.      

This role manages and leads a team of specification builders for Ingredients and Finished Products.  The team manages, governs and continuously improves the process to execute accurate Ingredient and Finished Product specifications within the Product Data Management System.  The team is responsible for defining and adhering to guidelines and procedures for effective specification build and approvals.

The QRC Supervisor PDM Specifications coordinates and leads activities associated with specification definition and development in partnership with QRC SMEs, R&D, Procurement, Suppliers, Hershey Manufacturing Facilities, Contract Manufacturing Partners and Contract Packers.  The team ensure proper access and availability of appropriate specification information to External Partners including Food Service and Licensing.

 

Top Responsibilities / Outcomes Expected:

Leads team of personnel to manage and execute the PDM specification and reporting processes:

Serve as Subject Matter Expert on end-to-end business and systems processes and supervise day to day execution of activities.   Oversee team that executes creation, development, updates and changes to Ingredient and Finished Product Specifications.   Provide daily leadership, direction, coaching and development to team of specification builders.

  • Creates and maintains ingredient specification data in compliance with standards throughout ingredient specification lifecycle (including nutrition composition).  Manages overall specification development and approval process.  Provide support for technical review of ingredient attributes including but not limited to allergens, ingredient statements, physical and chemical properties, shelf life, etc. to ensure compliance with federal regulations and Hershey’s internal standards. 

  • Creates and maintains Finished Product specification in compliance with standards for chemical, physical and biological attributes as well as functional attributes as defined in partnership with Product Development and Innovation.  Provide support for technical review of finished good specification attributes including but not limited to weights, shelf life, measurable properties, etc. to ensure compliance with federal regulations and Hershey’s internal standards.   Support development of specifications for over 90 manufacturing facilities including HSY plants, comans and copackers for finished products.

  • Lead partnership with QRC regional and manufacturing teams to standardize ways of working on specifications and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders about specification processes to meet specifications quality standard.

  • Establish metrics for accountability of complete and accurate specifications.

Project Leadership:  Continuous improvement and M&A Integration 

Work with project management team on data integration, develop process for enhanced and automated execution of specifications. Assemble and advise cross functional teams to address and resolve major disruptions to the specification build process and works proactively with IS solution team and process owners to amend changes. Leads efforts for PLM- QSB process for integration of new businesses.

Knowledge Development and Training

Develop and execute consistent capabilities for specification generations across regions thru working with regional QRC managers and providing training to the QSB (quality specification builder roles) leads.  Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned work streams, develop Job aids and troubleshooting/ guidance documents for consistent application. Develop troubleshooting guidance. Provide training to personnel in regions, new recruits etc.

 

Qualifications:

Attention to detail in this role is critical as the employee must compare information from multiple sources to verify accuracy and perform follow up with other functions to remedy any issues that may be identified.

The employee should have working knowledge of Hershey date code strategy, net weight requirements, and product quality expectations.

The employee must have good multitasking skills to handle multiple projects at one time.

Experience & Education:

Education:  B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred OR equivalent related experience

Experience:  3-5 years related experience
